The Microwave Research group has an international reputation for its work in the niche field of microwave tubes. Our work has included:

• Making significant contributions to the simulation of travelling-wave tubes (TWTs), klystrons and magnetrons; and
• Focusing on issues concerned with the design of high efficiency, broad-band, TWT amplifiers for the next generation of satellite communications systems and high power c.w. magnetrons for industrial heating systems.

The group has close ties with E2V Technologies (Marconi Applied Technologies), Daresbury Laboratory, ESTEC, the Central Electronics Engineering Research Institute (Pilani, India), the Beijing Vacuum Electronics Research Institute, Beijing Medical Equipment Institute, and the Institute of Electronics of the Chinese Academy of Sciences.
